Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza Overview
Hyundai Venue was launched in India in May this year and quickly rose to popularity for it was the country’s first Internet-connected car and the very first sub-compact SUV from the house of Hyundai. Initial sales were good for the Venue, so much so that it outsold Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza which had for long been the top-selling sub-compact SUV in the country. Now though, one of the best-selling Marutis, the Vitara Brezza is back to reside as the king of sub-compact SUVs registering healthy growth in sales at a time when the industry is grappling with declining sales.
In the month of September, Maruti Suzuki sold 10,362 units of the Vitara Brezza, considerably higher than Hyundai Venue which registered 7,942 unit sales. Compared to its other competitors, the Vitara Brezza retains much higher popularity. Playing in the same segment, Ford EcoSport registered sales of 3,139 units while Tata Nexon registered 2,842 unit sales and Mahindra XUV300 saw sales of 2,492 units.
In the period of April to September 2019, the Vitara Brezza registered sale of 52,210 units. In the same period, Hyundai sold 42,681 units of the Venue, Mahindra XUV300 – 23,570 units, Tata Nexon – 21,113 units, and Ford EcoSport – 19,207 units. It should be noted that these are April to September sales figures and the Venue was launched in May this year so adding a month’s sales to the Venue’s kitty should bring down the gap to Brezza significantly. Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza is powered by a 1.3-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine, paired to a five-speed manual gearbox. In addition, Maruti Suzuki also offers this sub-4-meter SUV with a five-speed AMT gearbox, which it calls the AGS (Auto Gear Shift).Check for Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza price in Ahmedabad at Tryaldrive.
Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza Style
The car’s looks are contemporary and attractive. Maruti chose to go with traditional SUV shape rather than going curvy or crossover – which I think is smart, as the proportions allow the car to look like it is larger than a subcompact. The face is aggressive, with a noticeable front grille, which is finished well. The skid plate adds to the SUV stance. I am not convinced about the squarish wheel arches, because they make the wheels look a bit smaller, but it is still all very masculine and in-keeping with the design brief. The high ride height is accentuated by the high position of the taillights and the roof rails (which are only on the VDI and above variants).
The rear will remind a bit of the S-Cross and the family resemblance is not a bad thing. The floating roof concept also makes the car look bigger, and in the ZDI+ trim is available on some colours in white or black (yellow and blue have the white roof, while the red gets the black roof option). The car sits tall and has a good ground clearance as well at 198mm. This compares well with the rivals that are in the same territory (EcoSport: 200mm, TUV300: 190mm).
Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza Space
The Vitara Brezza has a sharp and well finished cabin. Again here the recent efforts with the Nexa cars has helped and so Maruti begins the new innings for this model at a higher benchmark. Plastics, fabric and other materials are subtle and classy. The material quality is good too, and you get a fair amount of equipment at the high end, including a cool box, reverse camera, big infotainment system screen with navigation, and yes – Apple CarPlay. You can hook up other non-Apple devices using the aux/USB in or Bluetooth of course. The Vitara Brezza brings an appealing feature to buyers at this price point – mood lighting for the instrument cluster! There is an option of 5 colours that you can play with to change the look of the cluster – blue, white, yellow, orange or red. This is only on the ZDI and ZDI+ though.
The cabin isn’t as roomy as the larger compact SUVs but will serve a 4 or 5 member family well. The rear seat has a lap belt for the centre passenger though, which isn’t great. The seat itself is neat, and its base flips up and allows the backrest to fold down to create a full flat cargo floor – that’s great! The split is 60:40, and so accommodating a good amount of luggage and cargo of all shapes and sizes would be fine.

One of the strongest Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza features is the famous 1.3-litre diesel unit. Capable of producing 89 Bhp of power and 200 Nm of torque, the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza transmission is a powerful one by all means. Most of the automobile engines kick off after reaching a speed of 2000 rpm. The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza is no exception. This vehicle has a noteworthy mid-range torque.
This vehicle can cruise noiselessly once it reaches a speed of 100 kmph and at 2100 to 2200 rpm. You have a five-speed manual transmission gear box that looks crisp. Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza Final Thought
The very popular Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza has been around for four years and Maruti Suzuki has managed to pull off impressive sales numbers without any major update. However, the Vitara Brezza is soon going to get a facelift along with a new petrol powertrain. The petrol Vitara Brezza will debut in the last quarter of this fiscal year. Sources have confirmed that the car’s development has been revived and the variant will arrive in Maruti Suzuki Arena showrooms around January 2020 – just ahead of the country’s transition to BS6 emission norms.
The updates on the exterior will be subtle, something similar to what we saw on the Baleno. The mid-cycle facelift is likely to arrive as the BS6 variant and the engine under the hood will be the tried and tested 1.2-litre K-Series petrol motor. Maruti has already announced to discontinue its diesel cars due to cost constraints and the 1.3-litre DDiS 200 engine powering the current Vitara Brezza will be discontinued. However, we still have no clarity if Maruti Suzuki will introduce its latest in-house developed 1.5-litre DDiS 225 diesel motor in the Vitara Brezza. It will also adopt the Smartplay Studio touchscreen and app-based interface with the facelift – as seen on the Baleno and Wagon R as of now.
